Our California Babymoon and Leaving our Girl

Wyatt and I spent last weekend in California for a short babymoon before our little babe comes in April (we are officially 8 weeks out from our due date, omg!!!) and it was the first time leaving town without Harper in tow. We were so excited to get away and have some quiet time as a couple, but it was so incredibly nerve racking and scary to leave Harper while we drove 6 hours away. I know that’s relatively close but not close enough to just pop home in case there was an emergency. Luckily, we have a both of our families close by and my mom (Nanny) and Wyatt’s mom (Grandma) got to switch hit all weekend with Harper so no one got too burned out. And we were only gone 2 nights so it really went by fast!

I think it’s so amazing that we got to take this short trip together before the new baby comes, we actually took this same vacation when I was pregnant with Harper just a lot earlier (I was only 4 months along and it was an activity packed weekend where this one was so chill). Wyatt and I spend quite a bit of time together (as much as we can anyway with him working full time an hour away and me working on Saturdays) but it’s so different spending time together as a family and spending time together alone. I literally don’t even remember what life was like before Harper was born! We must have had so much free time haha. But it was great having a couple days with no definitive plans and nothing that we had to do.

We got into San Diego on Friday afternoon and went straight for the beach in La Jolla, one of our favorite spots. We sat on the beach for awhile , then checked into our hotel near the Torrey Pines golf course, got cleaned up and had dinner at the yummiest Italian restaurant in La Jolla, Piatti. After dinner we just cruised around, had dessert and were super lame and went to bed early (our usual). I’m using being pregnant as an excuse but we almost always are in bed fairly early so we can start the next day early. Saturday was our only full day there so we definitely wanted to make the most of it! We went out and had a huge breakfast in Del Mar then walked down to the beach and laid out for probably 2-3 hours. I knew if we had taken Harper with us that this relax time would’ve never happened. It’s a funny feeling, I was so happy for this alone time but then I missed her like crazy all the same! I read a book, got some sun, Wyatt meditated (he’s super into it and it really seems to help him focus on his goals), and we talked about anything and everything. We grabbed a some snacks, went back to the hotel to get cleaned up and then drove up the coast to San Clemente to get some maternity pictures done (there will be a post soon all about it). I can’t wait to see how they turned out! Drove back down the coast and dinner and the night was pretty much over already. Sunday was such a blur! We got up early, packed, loaded the car and had a quick snack for breakfast. I had wanted to do a hike before we left so we hit up Torrey Pines State Park and hiked for about an hour. It started off pretty chilly but warmed up super quick. If you haven’t been on this hike, it’s a must do if you’re in the area. It starts off with a great climb and then once you’re at the top of the mountain (hill, whatever) there are several off shoot trails that take you over to the ocean and there are a couple spots where you can go down to the beach from the cliffs. We went from the hike to Starbucks for a quick breakfast and then straight to the beach to spend our last hour before starting the drive home.

PS, Road tripping takes so much longer when you’re this pregnant! We’ve made the drive to San Diego in about 5 hours and this trip it was pretty much a full 6 hours both ways with all our potty breaks and lunch stops. But overall it’s a super easy drive which really helped us pick our destination. The only other choice was Vegas but I figured there’s not too much for me to do there at almost 8 months along. We’ve been on this trip so many times (4 times as a married couple) and every time we go we find new restaurants, beaches, cute shops and more.

Harper did so good at home with both grandma’s and pretty much didn’t even miss us while we were gone. I guess getting spoiled for 2 days straight will do that! But, we did get the best hugs and kisses when we walked in the door. Wyatt actually took Monday off as well so we got to have a whole family day before our vacation weekend had to end. It’s so crazy to think that whatever our next vacation may be (we have zero planned at the moment) we’ll be a family of four! What? I’m not ready yet… I guess I’ve got about 8 weeks to get ready haha. Wish me luck!

xoxo,  Ashley
